I believe the scanner is marketed under a few names such as Xerox, and Contex. Does anyone know of scanner drivers that might work with this? Preferably time trials so I can evaluate the cost vs. capabilities. I dont know what you have, but if it is an Ideal scanner, then I'd try www.ideal.com They make 25 to 50

Just a thought, do the drivers supplied by any of the SCSI manufactures (EZ-SCSI by Adaptec, etc.) supplied scanner drivers? That may be the way to go, since I will be replacing my SCSI card. FWIW, I recently purchased a 600 II SP, and it installed and operates flawlessly with my NCR/Symbios Logic-based SCSI card

In device manager, do you actually see the scanner in control panel>scanners and cameras; or in My Computer do you see a icon for the scanner? If they are not present, the scanner drivers are most likely the problem and the scanner is not installed properly. If the scanner is a Primax FU661E, they have XP drivers

I wondered if open source twain/scsi/etc. drivers wouldn't be best for both the customer and the manufacturer. The manufacturer could focus on making the best *device* instead of trying to make the best driver software. There is 3rd party software out there that will work with scanners, but it's all driver dependent and all the ones that I know of won't work with that particular Agfa scanner (like ScanPrep Pro for example, which costs 4x as much as your scanner anyway: <http://www.scanprep.com/>) -- Judi Sohn j...@momathome.com

I'll never recommend or buy another HP scanner because of my experiences with them and their software. Well, there is a "general purpose," commercial scanner driver called Silverfast made by a company called Lasersoft. It supports a wide array of pro-grade flatbed scanners and the Nikon film scanners.

(This scanner, incidentially, works well in Win-OS/2 sessions.) The hardware is good, but the drivers bite the proverbial big one. Anyway, does anybody know of "Universal Scanner Driver" packages? Is the scanner "TWAIN compliant"?
